Jerry was born into humble beginnings--the son of a steel worker--and like most Americans has worked hard to better himself. He recognizes that only through the unique opportunities offered by this nation was he able to succeed. 

He enlisted in the U.S. Army as a Private during the Korean War and rose to the rank of a two star Major General—an uncommon achievement and a near impossibility for a soldier of mixed European, African and Native American ancestry.

Jerry’s experience in military leadership gives him a unique advantage in fighting the war on terror.  Once called the “ablest tactical commander in the entire U.S. Army,” Curry understands the importance of giving our soldiers and their commanders the flexibility and resources they need to get the job done.

Serving as the commanding officer on a variety of military bases provided broad experience to Jerry, not only in combat command, but also in civic oversight of the large community of people under his leadership.

Jerry served as Military Deputy Assistant to the Secretary of Defense in the Carter Administration, Acting Press Secretary to Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger in the Reagan Administration, and as Administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration under George H.W. Bush.

Jerry is an eloquent speaker and a man of keen intelligence. He is someone our allies and enemies will take seriously. Jerry is forthright, and will tell you exactly where he stands on the issues. He will not tolerate bickering and selfish power struggles in Congress, but will encourage both houses to work together to legislate solutions to the problems our nation faces.
